A general-purpose gantry crane is a bridge-type lifting machine with a gantry-shaped metal frame as its core structure. It consists of components such as a main beam, legs, and lower crossbeam. It is supported on the ground track by the legs on both sides and runs along the track.

Structural classification: According to the main beam structure, it is divided into single main beam (such as MDG type) and double main beam (such as MG type). Double main beam is mostly a box-shaped welded structure, which has better wind resistance and load-bearing performance; According to the cantilever form, it is divided into single cantilever, double cantilever and no cantilever, and the cantilever length expands the working range; The outriggers are divided into rigid outriggers (small span scenarios) and flexible outriggers (when the span exceeds 30 meters, to compensate for temperature deformation).

Material handling and drive system: The material handling device can be flexibly configured with hooks (general cargo lifting), grab buckets (bulk material loading and unloading), electromagnetic chucks (magnetic materials) or combinations of multiple devices; equipped with a crane trolley (integrated lifting and trolley running mechanism) that moves laterally along the main beam track; the electrical system includes control devices, safety interlocks and lighting equipment, and supports multiple modes of operation such as driver's cab operation and ground wired/wireless remote control.

Safety and technical specifications: Equipped with lifting capacity limiters, wind-resistant and anti-slip devices, wind speed alarms, and skewing limiters (mandatory installation when the span is ≥40 meters), etc.; the camber of the main beam at mid-span shall not be less than 0.7L/1000 (L is the span); the welds of the metal structure shall comply with the JB/T10559 ultrasonic flaw detection standard; the working level covers A1 (light-duty) to A8 (heavy-duty), and the actual span shall be determined by measurement.
